Grand Island Students & Teachers Shave their Heads to Help Fight Cancer

Local -schools communities pledge to beat last year’s results of raising $57,000 for Roswell Park Cancer Institute at Goin’ Bald for Bucks events across Western New York!

 

WHAT:           3rd ANNUAL GOIN BALD FOR BUCKS AT CONNOR MIDDLE SCHOOL

A Roswell Park Cancer Institute “Team Cure” Event

2005 Goin’ Bald for Bucks Kick-Off Campaign at Lakeshore H.S.

* Students, Faculty, and School Community Members collect pledges to shave their heads or significantly cut their hair with a goal to raise over $57,000 for the 2005 Goin’ Bald for Bucks Campaign from 7 schools.

 

WHEN:           Friday, March 11, 2005

                        7:30 am  - 9:15 AM

 

WHERE:        Veronica E. Connor Middle School, Room 191

                        1100 Ransom Rd. Grand Island, NY 14072

 

WHO:             60 participants & over 1000 total from 7 schools throughout March

Participating Schools:

* Lakeshore Central * North Collins Central * Grand Island Central * Hamburg Central * Eden Central * Frontier Central * Buffalo State College

 

WHY:          *In 2002, Lakeshore History Teacher, Anthony George’s sister Cathleen

struggled for the 3rd time with cancer. Anthony offered his moral support by

shaving his head and from there the Lakeshore students grew this into a

fundraiser to benefit Roswell Park Cancer Institute in memory of Cathleen

George who succumbed to cancer on March 13, 2004.

                                   

* Past 3 yrs.: Students raised over $72,000 for cancer research & and patient care.

The event has grown w from 35

participants to over a 1000, & & from one

classroom to 7 schools across WNY (& plus Buffalo State College).
