Island candidates split parties' lines
   With 52 percent of the votes cast, Michael E. Heftka, the Democratic candidate for the Grand Island Town Board won the Independence Party's endorsement over Richard W. Crawford Jr., the incumbent Republican. Heftka had 48 votes to Crawford's 44.
   Crawford, however, won the Conservative Party's line over the registered Conservative candidate. With 53 percent of the votes, Crawford beat Gary G. Roesch, who got 47 percent of the votes. Crawford had 41 votes, five more than Roesch.
   For the position of town clerk, Patricia A. Frentzel, a registered Republican who ran unopposed, won both the Conservative and Independence parties' lines with 100 percent of the votes cast in each primary. Frentzel got 55 Independence votes and 36 Conservative votes.
