Charlene F. Dworak, ran bakery shops in Falls, Grand Island

Charlene F. Dworak of Grand Island, who operated bakery shops both in Niagara Falls and Grand Island with her husband, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center. She was 69.

Born Charlene F. Jessie in Tupper, she moved to Niagara Falls as a child with her family. She was a member of the last graduating class of St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Niagara Falls.

Mrs. Dworak and her husband of 47 years, Thomas R. Jr., owned and operated Niagara Fancy Bakery, first on 12th Street in Niagara Falls and later on Baseline Road on Grand Island. The bakery, which was founded nearly 50 years earlier by Mr. Dworak’s father, was operated with the help of other family members until it closed in 1980.

Mrs. Dworak then went to work as a sales representative at Ames Department Store on Grand Island. She retired from OHMTEK Technology in Wheatfield in the 1990s.

Mrs. Dworak was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Thomas S., Patrick and Richard, and a daughter, Lesha Tiedemann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday at 11:15 a. m. in St. Stephen Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island.
