Scott A. Smith, retired business consultant, volunteer

Scott A. Smith, a retired business consultant and Grand Island library board member, died unexpectedly Wednesday. He was 52.

Born in Lackawanna, Mr. Smith graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1979.

After college, Mr. Smith went to work for Anderson Consulting, a business consulting firm. He worked his way up to partner, before being forced to retire for health reasons.

After his retirement, Mr. Smith began to volunteer with the Service Corp. of Retired Executives, or SCORE, which provides counseling and operational assistance to small-business owners. He served as chairman of the Buffalo chapter from 2005 to 2007, then was appointed assistant district director responsible for all the SCORE chapters in upstate New York.

Since 2006, Mr. Smith has been a trustee of Grand Island Memorial Library. He served as vice president for two years and was currently serving as secretary.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 24 years the former Rochelle D. “Shelley” Rosenthal; a brother, Russell; and a sister, Suzette Hino.

A service will be at 10 a. m. Wednesday at Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home, 3000 Delaware Ave., Kenmore.
