Thelma Clarice McCaffery at 77 years of age went to be with our Lord on February 2, 2009 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was a 36-year resident of Grand Island, NY. Also residing in Castile, NY., Englewood, FL., and East Aurora, NY.
Chris was born April 18, 1931 in Rochester, NY to Thomas Claire and Phyllis Packard Hance, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Letchworth Central School and Rochester Business Institute.  She married Edward A. McCaffery Sr. on April 25, 1953 in Castile, NY. Chris is survived by her devoted husband and five loving children, Kenneth Michael McCaffery, Patti Carole (Sam) Loquasto, and John Foster (Wendy) McCaffery, all of Grand Island, NY; Edward A. (Roberta) McCaffery Jr. of Churchville, NY, and Valerie Grace (Gregory) Mis, of East Aurora, NY. She will be sorely missed by her eight loving grandchildren: Fawn Marie Gross of Grand Island and Manhattan NY, Kenneth M. McCaffery of Grand Island, Thomas Dylan and Clarice Mae McCaffery of Grand Island; Benjamin Edward and Calista Irene Mis of East Aurora; and Edward Adelbert III and James Carroll McCaffery of Churchville NY.  She is also survived by dear friends Robert W. (Theresa) Weaver; brothers Fredrick S. (Jane) Hance, Kenneth P. (Joyce) Hance, both of Castile, NY; sisters Marjorie Cowie of Perry, NY, Phyllis (Arthur) Oliver, of Fairport, NY and Verna (James) McAdam of Oswego, NY; sisters in law, Jean Vastola of Lancaster NY and Carolyn McCaffery of Almogordo NM; also many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
Chris had many interests, including needlework, quilting, crafts, and gardening. She and her husband were avid boaters on the greater Niagara waterways. She also enjoyed entertaining and spending time with her family and friends and grandchildren.
She was a life member and past president of the East Park Garden Club.  She served as office manager for Trinity United Methodist Church which she was a member of for nearly 45 years.
A celebration of life gathering was held at her Florida home on February 3, 2009.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday April 18th at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road Grand Island, NY.
