Jonas Stalyga’s 18 kills and six blocks helped Grand Island down Kenmore West, 3-2, as the Vikings captured the first Niagara Frontier League boys volleyball title in school history on Tuesday.

The close, back-and-forth NFL win was marked by game scores of 23-25, 25-10, 25-27, 25-19, 25-8.

“You wouldn’t believe it but we were down almost 10 points in game four and came all the way back,” GI coach Bill Schultz said. “I’m proud of these guys. If I get them to play a little more consistent, I think we’ll be able to roll past some people in sectionals.”

Also for GI (13-3 overall, 12-2 NFL), Scott Holler picked up 15 kills, four blocks, 15 digs and six aces and Mike Karpie added 12 kills, six blocks and four digs. For West (10-4), Nemanja Opacic had eight kills, 12 digs and seven blocks.
