GI girls play Aquinas to tie

The Grand Island girls soccer team played V-Aquinas, the second-ranked team in the state in Class AA, to a 0-0 tie. Vikings goalkeeper Kristin Wegrzyn turned back 21 shots. “Shots were like 24-21, it was just a great game,” said GI coach Dave Bowman. “Neither team got a bounce or a break. The game could have ended 6-5 just as easily as 0-0. It was a good, solid defensive game.”

Bowman said a shot grazed off the crossbar, a couple shots went just wide of the net and a player, who had a open shot, stumbled and fell after outrunning herself. Grand Island, a Class A school, sits at 7-2-2 while Aquinas is 10-1-2.
