Huge victory for Grand Island girls soccer

The Grand Island girls soccer team beat host Rochester Mercy, 1-0, on Saturday in a battle of state-ranked and undefeated teams. While Jeannie Taylor scored the game's only goal on assists from Amanda Cincelli and Jenna Raepple, it was Stephanie Senn, who stole the show.

The junior goalkeeper preserved the shutout with 19 saves, earning her third complete blanking of the season. "There were numerous comments after the game that our goalie was the best they had seen," said coach Dave Bowman. "She played very, very smart. She was receiving shots at the top of box, and then the next time they'd try to beat her high, and she was touching balls over the crossbar."

GI, ranked No. 6 in the state in Class A, improves to 8-0 while No. 3 Mercy falls to 7-1.
