HS ROUNDUP (Oct. 19): Grand Island girls make it eight straight titles

Catie Hilliard netted her 19th and 20th goals of the season as Grand Island beat Kenmore East 4-1 on Thursday to clinch its eighth consecutive Niagara Frontier League championship after North Tonawanda fell to Kenmore West. Jen Dear and Amber Duda also scored for GI (13-3-2 overall, 11-2-1 NFL).

“The best thing about this one is that at mid-season after we got off to that rough start, I just kept telling the girls to do their job and everything will fall into place,” GI coach Dave Bowman said. “And give the girls credit they went out there and didn’t lose a game since then. They did everything they could and luckily it worked out.”
