Grand Island's Banker tops 1,000 points

A halfcourt buzzer-beater helped Kallie Banker break a scoring milestone as Grand Island opened with a 60-30 win over Sacred Heart in the second round of the Pastor-Cooper Memorial Tournament at Daemen College. Banker's long distance shot gave her more than 1,000 points in her career. She finished with 20 points, including three three-pointers and five steals.

Taylor Swiatek connected for 26 points, five steals and five assists as Orchard Park opened with a 63-33 win over West Seneca East in the West Seneca Tip-Off.

In boys basketball, Cordell Torres hit a pair of free throws with 2.5 seconds left as Middle College edged Hutch-Tech, 67-63, in the Pastor-Cooper Memorial Tournament at Daemen. Khalid Brown led the Kats with 17 points while Torres added 16. Davon Alexander finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Marcus Nelson of Tech led all scorers with 25 points.
