The Rose Pastor girls title went to Grand Island , which displayed great balance in a 52-35 victory over St. Mary's of Lancaster .

MVP honors went to senior Danielle Wegrzyn, who had 11 points, including three three-pointers. Sophomore center Cassie Oursler had 15 points and nine rebounds, junior Megan Karpie added 12 points to go along with contributions from two returning All-Western New Yorkers -- senior Brooke DeMarco (eight points) and junior Kallie Banker (six) -- from last year's Class A champions.

"We had two solid wins against two really good teams," Wegrzyn said, referring to GI's 60-30 rout of Sacred Heart in the first round. "We played really well-rounded team games. Everyone was dishing the ball, helping each other out. The more team play we get, the better we'll do all season. It's nice to start off that way because we can only get better."

KC Sokolski had 11 points while Raeann Stilwell had 10 for St. Mary's, which advanced to the Class B state Federation championship game last year.

The Al Pastor Sportsmanship Award went to Grand Island senior Jessica Yarnes. That award is an important part of this event, which was started by Pastor in 1986 and was later renamed in his honor. In 2008, the tournament became the Pastor-Cooper in honor of Jerry Cooper, Pastor's son-in-law and the tournament director for 22 years.
