One day after suffering a heart-breaking loss to rival Niagara Falls, the Niagara-Wheatfield softball team rebounded with an 11-3 Niagara Frontier League win over Grand Island Thursday afternoon. The win gives the Falcons (10-4 NFL) a share of the league title with Kenmore West. It’s N-W’s first championship in at least 15 years, according to coach Eric Belter.

Joe Fischer had four goals and three assists as the Vikings rolled to the Class B pre-quarterfinal victory. GI (7-10 overall), which led 4-0 after the opening quarter, advances to Friday’s quarterfinals at second-seeded Amherst. Andy LaLonde had a hat trick, Kolby Banker netted two goals and four assists, Matt Ludwig had a goal and three assists and Jon Anderson made seven saves in net.
