Jeannie Taylor put home a penalty kick midway through the second half to help the Vikings cap off a perfect Niagara Frontier League slate. Jenna Raepple also scored for GI (15-1 overall, 14-0 NFL), which got strong play in the midfield from Jordan Dudish. Amanda Smyth scored for the Lady Jacks (8-6).

Kenmore West sisters Allie and Molly Diamond beat Grand Island’s Julie Hasselbeck and Merle Schmid at Sportsplex in North Tonawanda in the Niagara Frontier League Doubles Championships on Friday.
The Diamond duo will advance to Friday’s Section VI Tournament at the Lakewood YMCA in Jamestown.
Meanwhile, by virtue of regular season record, Melissa Wilhoff (Kenmore East), Miller Barmasse (Lockport), Alex Filey (Kenmore West) and Andrea Licata (Lockport) will represent the NFL in the singles portion of the Section VI tournament.

Nikki Zimmerman won the 100 breaststroke and was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team for Grand Island. Chelsea O’Laughlin was a double winner for the Lancers (1-6 NFL), taking first place in the 50 and 100 frees. The Vikings move to 2-5 in the league.

COACH OF THE WEEK: Dean Santorio of Grand Island has been named the NFL/Buffalo Bills Coach of the Week for Week Eight. The Vikings won at Williamsville South to advance to the Class A semifinals.

Bobby Ross buried a header off a corner kick from Joe Fischer in the 13th minute to lift the Vikings to the Class A pre-quarterfinal win. Ryan Osvath had two goals and two assists. Fischer had a pair of tallies and Kolby Banker added a goal for GI (13-1-3 overall). Jeremy Figler made two saves for his 13th shutout of the season.
