Marci Barberic scored a goal for the No. 3 Grand Island girls soccer team (11-4-2), and helped it advance to the Class A semifinals by beating No. 6 Amherst 3-1. "It was a good game, back and forth," said coach Dave Broman. "I was happy with the way we played defensively, and we got balls up. Marci (Barberic) did a great job controlling ball and distributing." Madisyn Pezzino and Julia Kelly also netted goals for Grand Island. Amherst's lone goal was scored off a free kick from the outside and that was the only blemish on keeper Meaghan O'Leary, who had seven saves. The Vikings now move on to play No. 2 Willliamsville South at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Depew High School with a shot at the finals on the line.
