King robber gets prison sentence
Grand Island man who went for on-the-job training at the same Burger King
outlet he robbed five days earlier was sentenced Thursday to five years in
Adam Ruiz, 30, of Staley Road, was sentenced by Erie County Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on his plea to a felony attempted robbery charge for the holdup of the Burger King on Grand Island Boulevard last Jan. 6.
Prosecutor James F. Bargnesi noted a Burger King cashier said she almost fainted last Jan. 11 when she recognized Ruiz, who had robbed her of $231 on Jan. 6. Ruiz had returned to the restaurant to train for a grill job five days after the robbery, the prosecutor said.
