WRESTLING - Class AAA - 2/11/2003
Iroquois' depth has the Chiefs ranked fourth among large schools and makes them a favorite in the team competition, with first-year coach Matt Mariacher having sons Matt (96) and Reece (125) ranked in their classes. . . . Another brother act is starring for Sweet Home, which has Andrew Stella ranked first at 119 while younger brother Nic is among the honorable mentions at 96. Andrew - last year's sectional champion at 103 - will likely have to contend with the No. 2 (Chris Ciechoski of Grand Island) and No. 3 (Brian Marmo of Starpoint) wrestlers in his class. . . . Also looking to back up their No. 1 status are Lew-Port's Eric Barker (152), defending 160-pound champion Dan Murrer of Williamsville East and heavyweight Willie Nesbitt of eighth-ranked large school Pioneer. . . . Justin Walp (Lew-Port) and Steve Pancio (Olean) are ranked second and third, respectively, at 103.

This weekend is the Niagara Frontier League Championships at Grand Island for Section VI swimmers and divers. The Section VI Championships will be held Feb. 22, 2003 in Clarence. The New York State meet is Feb. 28-March 1 at ECC.
