Rachel Marks of Lake Shore has a little unfinished business before she heads off to the University of Virginia this fall on a partial athletic scholarship. She's cleared 5-6 this year in the high jump, won states last year at 5-7 and would like to jump 5-8 this year. The 5-8 would be a school record and would qualify her for Junior Nationals. Marks also made states in the long jump, reaching 17-41/4. "I'd love to win jumping that 5-8," she said. "That's what my whole season has been preparing for." . . . Sophomore LaDrea Dortch wasn't the only Lockport athlete injured at Saturday's sectionals. Dortch injured her ankle while warming up just before the 100. Freshman Lyndsey Devine broke a bone in her wrist on the first hurdle of the steeplechase but managed to finish the race. She left the meet and returned later with her arm in a cast. "We had a rough day," said coach Dan Langendorfer. . . . Senior Kate Kohout of Clarence, who has signed with the University at Buffalo, finally will get pushed in the 800, and she'll be competing in the triple jump for the fourth straight time. . . . Junior Mary Boller of Clarence and Pryor of Niagara Falls give Section VI a real shot in the discus. Pryor has thrown 140-1, while Boller has a 131-9 to her credit. Last year, 126-1 won the discus. . . . Jenny Rogan of Grand Island qualified in four events: She won the 200, hit the state standard in the 100 and was on the 400 and 1,600 relays. She committed to running the 200 and both relays. . . . Senior Dawn Anderson of Kenmore East looks to reach the finals in the 400 hurdles after running a WNY-leading 1:04.77 at sectionals. Teammate Mary Kosloski enters states having won the sectional pentathlon by 456 points.
