Junior Mike Feathers of Grand Island finished second in the large schools pentathlon for the second year in a row. Feathers finished just 76 points out of first place. It was a much different pentathlon for Williamsville South sophomore Alyissa Hasan. Hasan, who reinjured her foot at sectionals, placed a disappointing seventh with 2,927 points. She'll see a doctor Monday. "I made one long jump attempt, one high jump, and in the 800 I felt it all. The point of this meet was just finishing," she said.

Plenty of other athletes took advantage of the near-perfect weather conditions. Grand Island junior Erica Burns wasn't among the favorites in the large schools triple jump, but after leaping 38-1 to destroy her previous best by 21/2 feet to finish second she said: "I'm just full of surprises. I don't know what it is. I might just pop off something."
