State Rankings - 10/12/2002
   The following WNY teams were ranked for the week of Oct. 6, 2002 in the New York State polls conducted by the New York State Sportswriters Association:

GIRLS SOCCER
The Grand Island girls soccer team's 4-0 win on Friday, October 11, 2002 against Kenmore West avenged its only loss of the season, pushed the Vikings (12-1-1) to the top spot in the Western New York large school rankings and the No. 10 spot in the state Class A poll. Kenmore West is now 18th in the state. That was one of several key games last week to have an impact on league races and postseason seedings. The Section VI boys soccer seeding meeting is Thursday, with first-round games starting Saturday, while the girls soccer sectional seeding meeting is Sunday.

Girls Swimming - 10/12/2002
Diver Kelly Beatty, a junior at Grand Island, scored 276.70 points on Friday to break Karen Learmen's Niagara Frontier League record of 267.90 set in 1986.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL - 10/12/2002

Grand Island 28, West Seneca East 14: Paul Scappechio had 16 tackles, Josh Bernardoni had 112 yards in receptions and Chris Sica threw for 142 yards for the Vikings. Mike Blocho rushed for two TDs and rushed for 92 yards. Adam Hyde scored both Trojan TDs.
