SOCCER PLAYOFF PREVIEW - 10/22/02
GI's Prozik looks to pass 100
Grand Island girls coach Peter Prozik recorded his 100th career victory as the Vikings won the Niagara Frontier League title Friday with an 8-0 win over Lew-Port. Prozik has been coaching Grand Island - which finished 14-1-1 in the NFL - since 1997. Grand Island has scored more than 100 goals this year while giving up just nine, and look primed for a playoff run. GI bounced back from its only loss of the season by routing Kenmore West, 4-0, and second-ranked large school Clarence is in the other side of the tournament bracket. . . . The Vikings may be the favorite, but Lake Shore is the top seed after a perfect season in ECIC II. Amanda Janosky (10 goals) was on the team that went to the state final four three years ago. . . . Clarence won ECIC I, while three teams that spent the season punishing each other - Lancaster, Frontier and Williamsville North - and up-and-coming Jamestown might be ready to surprise.
