Girls Swimming - 11/16/02
Section VI Championships: Shana Dege of Lockport is the leader in diving after Friday's first round. The top 24 advanced to today's final. Niagara Frontier League champion Kelly Beatty of Grand Island was second and seventh-grader Casey Matthews of Williamsville North was third. The finals in all events begin at 11 a.m. today in the ECC Flickinger Center.

Girls Soccer - 11/16/02
Section VI teams went 1-2 in the state final four games at Honeoye Falls-Lima.
Class A semifinals: The two-time defending state champions were too much for Grand Island as the Vikings lost to South Side of Rockville Centre (Section VIII), 5-1. Jessica Remmes scored the lone goal for the Vikings, who finished 19-2-1. Junior goalkeeper Corinne Razem was busy, making 21 saves. South Side, ranked No. 9 in the nation by Student Sport Magazine, plays Baldwinsville for the title today.

State Rankings- 11/16/02
The following WNY teams were ranked for the week of Nov. 3 in the New York State polls conducted by the New York State Sportswriters Association:
FOOTBALL
CLASS AA: 3, North Tonawanda (9-0); 8, Orchard Park (8-1); 17, Jamestown (7-2). CLASS A: 4, Sweet Home (9-0); 7, Grand Island (8-1). Honorable Mention: Hutch-Tech (7-1), McKinley (6-2), Pioneer (6-3).

GIRLS SOCCER (Nov. 1 poll)
CLASS A: 6, Grand Island (17-1-1); 16, Kenmore West (16-1-2); 20t, Clarence (17-3-0).

GIRLS SECTION VI SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS - 11/17/02
The Orchard Park Quakers won Saturday's (Nov. 16, 2002) Section VI Championships. Orchard Park won all three relays for the second year in a row and also won two individual events. Shana Dege of Lockport, the leader after Friday's first round, won the diving with an 11-dive score of 417.75. Junior Kelly Beatty of Grand Island also managed to qualify even though she was battling an inner ear infection which affected her balance. Diving: Shana Dege (Lockport) 417.75; Casey Matthews (Williamsville North) 410.65; Kelly Beatty (Grand Island) 400.00; Christina Rua (North Tonawanda) 396.70.
