WESTERN NEW YORK ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM - 12/6/2002 For the 16th consecutive year the top high school football student-athletes in Western New York are being honored by the Buffalo Bills for their participation on the football field and in the classroom. All of the 41 scholar-athletes are seniors who played varsity football and have maintained an academic average of a 90 or above in their studies. The All Academic Team is co-sponsored by the WNY High School Sports newspaper.

BOYS BASKETBALL - Dunkirk Tournament -12/8/2002
   Rodney Green scored on a drive to the hoop with 6 seconds left as defending champion Niagara Catholic edged Fredonia, 48-46, for the title. Fredonia led, 46-44 with 10 seconds left when the Big Red's Carlton Mason made a shot to tie it. Ezra Scott had 12 points and nine rebounds while tourney MVP Greg Betterson added nine points. Adam Smith paced Fredonia with 13 points.
   Mike Feathers had 24 points, Nick Rossi scored 20 and John Colosi had 10 rebounds for Grand Island in a 73-40 consolation win over Dunkirk. Luis Pagan had 22 points for the Marauders.

Dunkirk Tipoff: Niagara Catholic wasted a 15-point halftime lead, but rallied to force overtime and went on to a 59-53 win over Grand Island. Robbie Green scored eight of his 19 points in the extra session as the Rapideers outscored the Vikings, 10-4. Ezra Scott's free throw with 11 seconds left for NC sent the game into overtime. Mike Feathers led Grand Island with 23 points.
