Grand Island woman found dead at children's pool

A 56-year-old Grand Island woman is dead today after she she was found partially in a children's pool, reported Erie County Sheriff's deputies.

Police do not suspect foul play and it is possible the woman may have suffered a heart attack, Capt. Ron Kenyon said.

The woman's identity has not been released pending notification of her family.

The woman was sitting in her backyard on Ransom Road with her feet in the pool, deputies said. Police described the pool as a small plastic pool, about eight inches deep and four feet wide.

"She was sitting on the side cooling off her feet," said Kenyon. "There appears to be no signs of foul play. There was nothing out of the ordinary."

When her husband went to check on her, she told him that she would be coming inside the house soon.

Police were called at about 7:50 a.m. for a report of a woman not breathing in her backyard. Grand Island Fire responded and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Friday morning.
