A woman died late Thursday in a fire at a Grand Island apartment, Erie County sheriff's deputies reported this morning.
Firefighters and deputies were dispatched to the Country Glen apartment complex on Bedell Road shortly after 10 p.m. They found fire and heavy smoke coming from a third-floor apartment, deputies said.
The woman was found dead inside. Deputies said she has not been positively identified but her name is not being released until family is notified.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Fire Investigation Unit.
