New Year’s Eve party lands man in hot water

A Grand Island man faces numerous misdemeanor charges for allegedly hosting a New Year’s Eve party at his home for minors and then inappropriately touching two females there, Erie County sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.

James Abshagen, 49, of Hennepin Road, is accused of serving alcohol to several minors at the party and then touching two of the minor females to whom he served alcohol, sheriff’s officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office was contacted Jan. 1 by a parent of one of the minors who said his daughter had been sexually abused at the party. Senior Sheriff’s Detective James Hatch arrested Abshagen, charging him with four counts of unlawfully dealing with a child, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of forcible touching and two counts of sexual abuse.

Abshagen was released on appearance tickets pending a Jan. 14 return to Grand Island Town Court.
