Grand Island man thwarts armed robber at ATM

A suspect armed with a 12-gauge shotgun tried to rob a 37-year-old Grand Island man Saturday (Oct. 27, 2007) at a drive-thru ATM at the HSBC Bank at 2300 Baseline Road, Grand Island, Erie County sheriff's deputies said.

The suspect pointed the gun in the man's car and demanded money around 8 p.m. The victim grabbed the barrel of the gun and a brief struggle ensued, sheriff's deputies said.

The man suffered a severe cut on his hand, but the suspect ran away, authorities said.
