Change in venue for canal conference

Updated: 03/03/08 6:36 AM

LOCKPORT — This fall’s New York State Canal Conference, which Mayor Michael W. Tucker had planned to host here, instead will use the Holiday Inn on Grand Island as its headquarters, it was disclosed last week.

The first day of the conference, set for Oct. 5-7, will include a trip to North Tonawanda by boat, and the second day will include sessions at the hotel and a trip to Buffalo. A bus ride to Lockport will conclude the event.

Tucker said he had asked the Lockport Holiday Inn to hold a block of rooms for the conference dates, but that won’t be necessary now.

“I expressed my displeasure. But they are spending a full day [in Lockport],” Tucker said.
