July 20, 2009, 7:05 AM /

The Niagara River Greenway Commission is sponsoring the fourth annual Paddles Up Niagara along the shores of Grand Island on Saturday. The day’s highlight is a 4.8-mile noncompetitive paddle within Beaver Island State Park.

“Paddle Up”, a Native American custom, will begin along the state park following a traditional Native American departure ceremony at noon.

Other activities include an introductory canoe program for children, along with the opportunity for participants to try out canoes and kayaks.

Activities begin at 8:30 a. m. and are free to the public. Normal state park entrance fees apply.
