A former Buffalo man is missing after a boating accident Thursday evening in waters off Fort Myers Beach in Florida.
A search and rescue mission for Paul Taefi, 31, was turned into a recovery operation this morning, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators believe Taefi was operating a 20-foot boat when a passenger, Carl M. Wlodyka, 28, fell into the water.
Taefi stopped the boat and jumped into the water to assist Wlodyka. Wlodyka was able to get to shore, but Taefi went missing.
Taefi was listed by Florida authorities as a resident of Bonita Springs. The Fort Myers News-Press reported this morning that Taefi originally was from Buffalo.
His parents currently live on Grand Island.
Investigators said they believe alcohol was a primary factor in the accident.
