Sex offender put in jail after Fantasy Island visit

August 15, 2009, 6:35 AM /

LOCKPORT—Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza jailed a sex offender Thursday after his probation officer spotted him at Fantasy Island.

Kevin M. DeLorenzo, 23, of Lewiston, was supposed to stay away from places where children gather as one of the rules of his 10-year probation term, which started in 2004.

But Niagara County Probation Officer William Collins reported that he spotted DeLorenzo while on a visit to the Grand Island amusement park last weekend. Collins didn’t arrest him on the spot, but he did report the incident, and Sperrazza ordered DeLorenzo to report to court, where she sent him to the County Jail pending a hearing Wednesday.

DeLorenzo pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree sexual abuse after he and his brother took liberties with a 15-year-old Lewiston girl in 2003. If he’s found guilty of violating probation, he could be sentenced to as long as four years in state prison.
