Storage shed fire caused by use of insecticide bomb

The improper use of an insecticide bomb sparked a fire in the backyard storage shed of a Grand Island residence early Thursday morning, Grand Island fire officials reported.

The fire started at about 8:30 a. m. in a rear shed at the Schwegler Road home of April Wright, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring out of the back of the shed. The blaze was quickly extinguished. Damage was estimated to be about $2,000.

Grand Island Fire Investigator Chuck Berlinger determined the cause of the blaze was attributed to the homeowner there attempting to rid a rodent infestation by improperly using an insecticide. No further details were released.

No injuries were reported.
