Grand Island finishes off South

Defense stuffs Billies' two-point conversion

10/9/2005
For the second week in a row Grand Island won thanks to a fantastic finish.

On Saturday it was Williamsville South which fell, 28-27, in Class A. Last week GI kicked a field goal as time expired to beat Albion, 30-28.

"We have a lot of seniors, so we feel whether we're down or in a close game, we feel we can hopefully get the job done," said GI coach Dean Santorio.

Williamsville South climbed within one point when Spencer Murray caught an 11-yard pass from Jake Krantz with 2:10 left. On the conversion they went for two and the win, but linebacker Ryan Harvey made the stop of the South QB who had rolled out on a bootleg.

It was one of 13 tackles for Harvey, who also rushed for 258 yards on 32 carries and scored twice. QB Ryan Breier had a TD pass to Derek Moody and also rushed for a score.

GI improves to 5-1 while South stands at 1-5. "We were up, 21-0, in this game and we kind of killed ourselves and they took advantage," said Santorio.
