Alumni Association Presents Scholarship Award - 2007

   The Grand Island Alumni Association presented a check to Grand Island High School graduate Michael Davis on Monday, July 2, 2007. Michael will be attending Niagara University in the fall. The GIAA has been providing scholorship money to Grand Island youth for the past four years. Funds are raised through social events such as the upcoming "All Island Reunion" at "Jazz on the River" at the Holiday Inn. This event is scheduled for Friday, August 3rd beginning at 7 p.m. and there is no admission. Buy a duck and take a chance to win an authentic signed Buffalo Sabres Jersey, catered dinner for 20 from Chef's Restaurant and other prizes during the East River Duck Race at the end of August. Grand Island Alumni Association Hosts "All Island Reunion" - 2007

   The Grand Island Alumni Association will host an "All Island Reunion" from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Brick Oven Restaurant in the Grand Island Blvd. Plaza. The event will feature a 50/50 raffle and prizes. Admission is $20 per person and includes beer, wine, pizza and wings with all proceeds to benefit the Grand Island Alumni Association's scholarship program.
   Tickets may be purchased by contacting Dick Crawford (773-4121), Jodi Robinson (773-6789 ext. 117), Kim Schopp (773-5505), Pattie Frentzel (773-8788) or Chris Aronica (404-0088).
   Rubber ducks will be for sale to be entered in the Duck Race later in the summer!





Alumni Association Presents Second Scholarship Award - 2006

   The Grand Island Alumni Association presented a check to Kaitlin Voltz on Thursday, August 17, 2006 in the newly landscaped high school courtyard. Kaitlin will attend Erie Community College and study respiratory therapy. Thanks to the donation from Mark Frentzel and his fall fundraiser, the Alumni Association was able to give a second scholarship this year. The second scholarship went to Angelia Jaeger who will be attending Buffalo State College to study bilingual education in the fall. The Grand Island Alumni Association is an arm of the Grand Island Foundation For Education.

   Thanks to a donation from the Friends of Mark Frentzel campaign, the Grand Island Alumni Association was able to present two monetary awards to deserving Grand Island High School seniors this year. Angelia Jaeger will be attending Buffalo State College to study bilingual education and Kaitlin Voltz will attend Erie Community College and study respiratory therapy. Angelia was presented her check by alumni members on Monday, July 24, 2006. Thanks to Mark Frentzel for donating money raised at a fall fundraiser to the Alumni Association. The Grand Island Alumni Association is an arm of the Grand Island Foundation For Education.

   Friday, August 5th turned out to be a beautiful evening for Islanders to gather at the river. The Holiday Inn's weekly "Jazz on the River" was the gathering spot for the Grand Island Alumni Association's second "All Island Reunion." A nice sized crowd listened to the "Rod Nickson Project," danced and enjoyed great food and drinks. A raffle held to provide funds for an award given to an Island graduate each year, raised $500. Winner of the first prize of dinner catered for 20 by Chef's restaurant and wine provided by Isledegrande.com was former Islander Helen Dinero of Buffalo. Second prize of $100.00 toward custom Grand Island jewelry, provided by deSignet International, was won by Karen Conboy of Grand Island.

   Members of the Grand Island Alumni Association award committee are proud to announce Stacey Monaco as the Alumni Association's award winner for 2005. For the second year the Alumni has given an award to a Grand Island graduate who shows positive scholastic effort, personality and character traits. Good citizenship, seriousness of purpose, extra-curricular activities and community involvement also play a role in the decision. Stacey is headed to Canisius College this fall to major in Pre-Law.





Grand Island Alumni Association Announces Second "All Island Reunion" - 2005

   An All Island Reunion, sponsored by the Grand Island Alumni Association, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2005 at the Holiday Inn - Blues on the River.
   The last event was so much fun with great music and the chance to see old friends. Delicious refreshments are available for purchase and there is no admission fee. Raffle tickets will be available to win a catered dinner for 20 from "Chef's" which will include wine donated from Isledegrande.com. Second prize will be custom designed "Island" jewelry ($100.00 value) from deSignet International. Funds raised through the raffle will be used to continue the presentation of a monetary award to a deserving Grand Island graduate each year.




Island Alumni Association To Present Monetary Award - 2004

   The Grand Island Alumni Association is offering a monetary award to one deserving Grand Island High School senior this year. The student must be graduating from Grand Island High School and accepted and planning to attend an accredited college. For an application, contact Carolyn Fabiano in the high school guidance office.
   The
Grand Island Alumni Association, formed in April 2003 as an arm of the Grand Island Foundation, was organized for the benefit of Island residents and former residents alike.




Island Alumni Association Postpones February Event - 2003

   The Grand Island Alumni Association has found it necessary to postpone the February 14, 2004 dinner dance. A similar spring event is being planned.




Island Alumni Association To Host River Oaks Mixer - 2003

   The Grand Island Alumni Association invites everyone to a mixer at River Oaks Clubhouse at 7 p.m. November 28, 2003 - the day after Thanksgiving. This will be on a cash basis, with no cover charge. Membership forms will be available.

Alumni Association Homecoming Event - 2003

   The Grand Island Alumni Association extends a cordial invitation to all former and present Island residents to attend the Grand Island High School Homecoming game at 2 p.m. October 25, 2003 at Masters Field. The Alumni Association will also host an informal reception at 1 p.m. in the high school cafeteria and featuring Grand Island High School Principal Dr. James Dempsey who will give a tour and an update of the extensive additions made to the building. A cash mixer will be held at B A's Saloon on East River Road will take place after the Grand Island/Niagara Wheatfield game - hopefully another victory for the Varsity Vikings.

Grand Island Alumni Association Announces Upcoming Events

   The Grand Island Alumni Association meeting September 16, 2003 in Sidway School was well attended and many ideas were exchanged. The following social activities have been scheduled for the upcoming Fall/Winter seasons.
   The Association invites everyone to the Grand Island High School Homecoming game at 2 p.m. October 25, 2003 at Masters Field. A 1 p.m. informal reception will take place in the cafeteria beforehand featuring Dr. Dempsey giving a update and tour of recent changes made. Afterwards, a cash mixer will be held at B A's Saloon on East River Road.
   The second event being held at River Oaks Clubhouse on November 28 at 7 p.m. is a mixer and a chance to see old friends and meet new ones. This will also be on a cash basis, with no cover charge. Membership forms will be available at both mixers.
   A dinner dance is planned for Valentine's Day, Saturday, February 14 at the Holiday Inn Grand Island. Tickets, which will be reasonably priced, will include dinner, music, dancing, and a perfect way to celebrate the romantic holiday. Overnite packages will be available.
   Grand Island's Independence Day Parade 2004 will take place on Saturday, July 3, 2004. The GI Alumni Association will hold its second annual "All Island Reunion" that night at the Holiday Inn tent. Mark your calendar!

   The Grand Island Alumni Association's "All Island Reunion" brought out over 100 Islanders including several former residents who came back to town for the event on Friday, August 1, 2003 at the Holiday Inn. The hotel provides its weekly "Jazz on the River" free of charge and Friday night's "Group Therapy" had to be one of the best groups to appear so far.
   Though leading off early with some very black clouds, the weather couldn't have been better and the location right on the Niagara River was perfect for enjoying the warm summer night with friends and relatives, in the community spirit of attaining the goals of the Grand Island Alumni Association.
   Alumni Association representative Jodi Robinson extends the committee's appreciation to the Grand Island Holiday Inn for allowing the Association's first event to be held at "Jazz on the River." The Alumni Association committee also thanks the following sponsors for donations to the first event: Isledegrande.com, Aronica & Company, Gary Roesch, Pattie Frentzel, Councilman Dick Crawford and Supervisor Peter McMahon.

A small entry fee will be charged and cash bar and food available.

   April 10, 2003...There is a new group in town. The
Grand Island Alumni Association has been organized for the benefit of residents and former residents alike. A social organization, GIAA plans include several events each year. You know how much you enjoy the July 4th holiday and your class reunions. Everyone is welcome, present and former islanders, Sidway and Grand Island High School graduates, even if you just went to grade school and moved on, we want you. We are celebrating the "Grand Island Spirit," that we are famous for.
   Any monies raised at the Alumni Association events and through annual dues will go to cover newsletters, website and awards to students and teachers. Our group is an arm of the Grand Island Foundation, working on behalf of the schools to attract private funds for educational and extra-curricular activity not covered by tax dollars.
   Grand Island Alumni Association's first social event, an All Island Reunion, will be held on Friday, August 1, 2003 at the Holiday Inn Resort and Conference Center.
