Democratic Endorsement Committee Accepting Applications - 2007
   The Grand Island Democratic Committee has announced the process for candidates interested in being considered for the Democratic endorsement in the 2007 Election for Grand Island town office. Daniel T. Quider, Chairman of the Grand Island Democratic Committee, said,”the Democratic committee decided to get an early start to the process to allow our endorsed candidates every opportunity to get their platform before the voters so they can make informed choices on who should represent them in Grand Island town government.”
   Grand Island offices to be decided in the November 2007 election include: town supervisor, town clerk, town justice and two town council member seats on the Town Board.
   Quider said the Committee set the following time table: March 16, 2007 deadline for submission of letter requesting the endorsement (Letter must be received no later than the deadline), all interested candidates will be notified of the date/time and location of the interview, (interviews will be held by the end of March), the endorsement committee will present their recommendations to the full Democratic Committee at the April 10, 2007 regular monthly meeting.
   Those interested is being considered for the Grand Island Democratic Committee endorsement should submit a letter of request along with a resume’ to: Grand Island Democratic; Daniel T. Quider, Chairman; 3489 Baseline Road, Grand Island, NY 14072-1069.






Democratic Committee Announces Raffle Winner - 2006


   The Grand Island Democratic Committee raffled off an xbox 360 valued over $500 during the Saturday, July 1, 2006 Island Happenings event. The xbox was purchased through the generous donations of State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, Councilwoman Sue Argy, Supervisor Peter McMahon, Legislator Michelle Iannello, and Judge Michael D'Amico. The winning ticket was drawn by Judge Tim Drury and the winner was James Rustowicz, shown with his brother, Sean Christian.

Dems Serve Fantastic Pancakes - 2004


    The Democratic Committee's Pancake Breakfast on March 14, 2004 at the Knights of Columbus featured some fantastic pancakes and the McCarthy School of Irish Dancers. The committee was head by Tracy and Pat Bannister. GI Democratic Committee To Host 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast - 2004
   The Grand Island Democratic Committee will host its 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 14, 2004 at the Knights of Columbus. Entertainment will be by the McCarthy Irish Dancers. Prices are adults/$6, children/$4, family/$20.

   The Grand Island Democratic Committee met April 15, 2003 to select those Island residents who will run for election on the Democratic slate in the November 2003 election. Daniel T. Quider, Chairman of the Democratic Committee made the official announcement of the Committee's choice of candidates as follows:
  • Peter A. McMahon, an incumbent for supervisor
  • Kevin M. Rustowicz, an incumbent for councilman
  • Michael Heftka for councilman
  • Robin Swedish for town clerk
  • Sybil Kennedy, an incumbent for town justice





    Democrats Hold St. Pat's Day Pancake Breakfast - 2003

    The Grand Island Democratic Committee held a St. Patrick's Day Pancake Breakfast Sunday, March 16, 2003 to kick-off the election campaign season. Most of the candidates were on hand, including those shown, Town Councilman Kevin M. Rustowicz, Candidate for Town Council Michael Heftka, Candidate for Town Clerk Robin Swedish, and Town Justice Sybil Kennedy. Entertainment was provided by students of the McCarthy School of Irish Dancing, including Katie Rustowicz, shown left.





    GI Democratic Committee Offers All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast - 2003
       The Grand Island Democratic Committee will host an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at the Knights of Columbus. A breakfast feature will be the 10:30 a.m. appearance by Irish dancers. Prices are adults/$5, children/$3, family/$18.





    Grand Island Democrats To Endorse Candidates - 2003
       February 3, 2003 . . .Daniel T. Quider, Chairman of the Grand Island Democratic Committee announced the formation of the Grand Island Democratic Endorsement Committee. The committee has set the following time line for any candidate interested in being considered for the Grand Island Democratic Committee endorsement
       1. Friday, February 21, 2003 Postmark: Deadline for submission of letter of intent with resume attached.
       2. Wednesday, March 5 and Thursday, March 6, 2003: Scheduled interviews for potential candidates
       3. March 11, 2003: Full Grand Island Democratic Committee meeting to consider/approve recommendations of the Endorsement Committee
       "This year's election is very important because the voters will decide who will lead Erie County for the next four years as well as who will lead Grand Island with the election of a town supervisor, town justice, town clerk and two councilmen on the town board," Mr. Quider said this week.
       Anyone interested in being considered for the Grand Island Democratic Committee endorsement should send a letter of intent listing the public office they are seeking and a resume. The letter of intent must be postmarked no later than Friday, February 21, 2003 at the following address:

    Jeff Stone Hosts Democrats - 2002

    Democratic Committee Chairman Jeff Stone recently hosted Democratic Committee people at his home on Stony Point Road to meet and talk with Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter who is seeking re-election. Various committee people voiced their concerns about the coming election and future of the Grand Island area. Mrs. Slaughter was able to address all topics handily and should prove to be a good representative for the coming term.     Democratic Picnic
       The Democratic Committee will hold its annual picnic 2001 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. September 8, 2001 at the Rod and Gun Club, 1083 Whitehaven Road. Everyone is welcome.
       The Democratic Committee will honor the following Democratic candidates: Town Council Mike Heftka, Town Council Eileen Torrance, Town Justice Randy White and Highway Superintendent Ken Carter.
       The picnic will feature activities for all ages, including a bounce house, hay rides, pony rides, snocones, jewelry making, legos, bubble fun, face painting, manicures and Play Doh for the children. Glen Tate will provide singer/guitar music.
       A delicious dessert contest is open to all. A Chiavetta's Chicken BBQ will be served from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person (no charge for children). For more information, call Sue Braun, 773-1020.

    Candidates for November 2001 Election
       The Grand Island Democratic committee is seeking candidates for the following Town of Grand Island offices: Town Council (two seats), Town Justice and Superintendent of Highways.
       Residents seeking the Island Democratic Party endorsement should submit a written request and any supporting material to the Grand Island Democratic Committee, c/o Chairman Jeffrey W. Stone, 2470 Stony Point Road, Grand Island, NY 14072. Letters are to be received by Friday, April 6, 2001. For information or questions, contact Jeff Stone at 773-1028 or 848-1327.
