On Saturday, October 27, 2007, the 105 lb. Grand Island Junior Vikings faced the Lewiston-Porter Rams at Kenney Field in the Town of Tonawanda. The first half went by very quickly with neither team scoring, but after the half, it was all Grand Island!
The Jr. Viking dominated the Lew-Port defense and recorded the team’s 7th shut-out of the season. Bailey Kephart and Danny Ray each had fumble recoveries. In the third quarter, Jacob McMahon had a great tackle in the backfield while defending an attempted reverse play. Linebackers Joey Chiaravalle, Joey Santa Lucia and Mike Dzielski each disrupted the Lew-Port offense. Defensive lineman Joe Campanella, AKA "Campzilla", was a force on the line.
The Grand Island offense played another great ball control game. The terrific blocking of tight end Vince Chiarenza allowed running backs Joe Chiaravalle, Jack Gorman and Jarod Brandon to rush for over 200 combined yards. Joe Chiaravalle scored the first two touchdowns and Jarod Brandon added the last touchdown. The Brandon touchdown was possible because of the great block Christian Mason made against the Lew-Port defender.
By beating the Lewiston-Porter team by a score of 18-0, the 105 lb. Jr. Vikings have advanced to the Super bowl Championship Game. The Vikings will play the North Tonawanda Avalanche at Wilson High School. The game begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 3. The Grand Island Junior Viking organization invites all to come enjoy the excitement of Youth Football!

Good luck Vikings!
