Women's Club News - January 2003

Island resident John Bonora spoke to the Grand Island Women's Club when the group met for lunch on January 8, 2003 at Harry's Harbour Place. He described how his antiques background was influenced by his uncle who was a very active dealer. John, now better known as financial wizard, brought a very old Sears Roebuck catalogue to show the clubmembers how it could be used as a barometer of pricing antiques, or to find out if an antique might be in your own home (furniture, that is). John is shown going over a flyer for an upcoming area antique show and sale with members Wendy Gaydica, Vicki Ochtuyn, Dawn Cyman and Dawn Bonora.

The Women's Club is a group of local women who meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at a restaurant for a speaker or presentation, or attend local tours and enjoy a luncheon afterwards. The group began with only Grand Island women but has grown to nearly 40 women and the geographical area includes many from "off the island."
The time is always from 11:30 a.m. with return to the Island by 2:30 p.m. Many women have children who will be home from school then, and the role of taxi driver begins. Ages range from 20's to 70's. The monthly lunch, event, or tour is described in the PennySaver and Dispatch every month. If any one is intereted in joining us for a lunch, please call Sheila Richards, 775-0305 at least four days prior to the event. Prepayment is expected. The luncheons range in price from $11-$14 all inclusive.
We have a very small raffle every month, and a fashion show this year, to raise money for charity. All members receive a newsletter which explains the next event as well as news.

Barbara Rondueu will be relocating out of state and her presence will be greatly missed locally. Barbara McMichael (left), representing the club, presented Mrs. Rondeau with a framed photo of the Grand Island Bridges as a reminder of the area from which she came.
