Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at the Buffalo Launch Club.

The purpose of Zonta Club of Grand Island is to advance the status of women,
to award scholarships to women of Grand Island and to provide service to Grand Island.
Major activities of the club are the annual antique show and monthly business and program meetings.

Zonta Club of Grand Island Offers Scholarships - March 2010
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island announces that scholarship applications are available at the Grand Island Memorial Library and the Grand Island Town Hall for the Club's 2010 awards to be presented in June.
   Two $750.00 Veronica Connor Scholarships will be awarded to 2 senior high school students who have been accepted and plan to attend an accredited college. Students may be seniors from Grand Island High School or from an off Island high school. Grand Island seniors should use the school district web site to obtain the scholarship application and due dates for applications and off Island seniors should check with their guidance departments for an application or call 773-6077.
   The Zonta Club's Memorial Scholarship ($750.00) will be given to a woman between the ages of 18-25 who is not a high school senior and who is in need of assistance to continue her education.
   The final ($750.00 ) scholarship will be awarded to a woman 25 years or older. This Career Advancement Scholarship is for a woman enrolled in a degree or non-degree program to acquire or upgrade job skills in order to reenter the job market.
    Applications are due on May 15, 2010 unless you are a Grand Island senior and your due date is April 7, 2010. For further information concerning any of these scholarship awards, call 773-6077.

"Jubilee Ringers" Entertain At Zonta Club Christmas Dinner - Dec. 2009

   Members of the Grand Island Zonta Club held their annual Christmas Dinner on December 8, 2009 at the Buffalo Launch Club. Beautiful music filled the air with the wonderful and delightful sound of bells coming from the group known as the Jubilee Ringers, a bell ringing group from around the area, including Grand Island and as far as East Aurora. The Zonta ladies not only enjoyed the music but also the opportunity to sing along with bell ringers to the traditional Christmas Carols. The Jubilee Ringers perform both seasonal and on-seasonal concerts throughout the year. For more information contact Mildred Fischle at 688-9078.




Zonta Club Poinsettia Sale - November 2009
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island’s annual poinsettia sale is now underway. Plants may be purchased in three sizes and three colors along with beautiful, decorated wreaths in two sizes. Please contact a Zonta member to order or call Sue Brusino at 773-6077 to place your order by November 21st.. Pickup is on December 4th and 5th at the Cataract Customhouse Brokerage on Grand Island Blvd. All proceeds benefit our scholarship fund for Grand Island women and other service projects. Zonta Club's 3rd Annual Fall Fashion Fling - Nov. 2009
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island will present its third annual Fall Fashion Fling, a luncheon and fashion show to benefit the Zonta scholarship fund. The event will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2009 in the Buffalo Launch Club. There will be a cash bar, a basket raffle, a Sabre raffle and more. Tickets at $20.00 are available by calling Barb at 773-9483.

   Barbara Nowakowski, newly elected president of the Zonta Club of Grand Island, presented scholarships to four young women on Tuesday evening, June 23 in the Buffalo Launch Club. Each recipient received a yellow rose, dinner and their Zonta Scholarship.


Zonta Contributes To Relay For Life - June 2009

   The Zonta Club of Grand Island sold tickets for a split club as a fundraiser for Grand Islands Relay For Life event held Friday, June 5, 2009. Zontians Pam Detig, and Lyn Laman ran a split club and the winner, Toni Brown, took home a prize of $250.

Zonta Club Announces Fall Fashion Fling - 2008

   Members of the Zonta Club of Grand Island will hold their 2nd annual Fall Fashion Fling on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at the Buffalo Launch Club. Tickets for the event may be obtained by calling 773-4304 or 773-9483 and are $20.00. There will also be a basket raffle and a money tree raffle.




Zonta Club Announces Scholarship Winners

   Members of the Zonta Club of Grand Island have announced that Grand Island High School seniors Bailey DeGlopper, Jessica Oyer, Alicia Sommer and Shana Wierchowski are the winners of the Zonta Club scholarships. They will be honored at a dinner in the Buffalo Launch Club on June 24, 2008 when they will receive their awards.

Zonta Club's Mother’s Day Yellow Rose Bush Sale - 2008


   Members of the Zonta Club of Grand Island will hold a yellow rose bush sale around Mother's Day and encourage residents to purchase the bushes and make a tribute to a woman (living or deceased) "who made a positive impact on your life," with the list to be posted at Isledegrande.com and other Island publications. The yellow roses are a hearty hybrid variety from Canada in two-gallon pots for outdoor planting. Cost is $25.00.

Carolyn's House Receives Zonta Donations - March 2008

   Members of the Grand Island Zonta Club recently made a donation to "Carolyn's House" in Niagara Falls. Zonta is a world-wide organization of profession and executive women who work to uphold the dignity and betterment of women everywhere. This includes both local and globally based projects. "Carolyn's house" is a facility with nicely updated, temporary apartments for abused and economically disadvantaged women and their children who are making a new start to a better life. Zonta sent personal grooming packages (soaps, shampoos etc.) for each of the 19 women in the program.




Zonta Club Presents October Fashion Fling - 2007
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island will sponsor October Fashion Fling, to benefit the Zonta's Scholarship Fund. The event will feature a fall luncheon and fashion show at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2007 in the Buffalo Launch Club, 503 East River Road, Grand Island, NY. Admission is $20 and ticket information is available by calling Debbie, 773-5722 or 773-9483. A basket raffle, 50/50 cash split drawing and a cash bar will round out the afternoon.




Zonta Hot Dog Sale At Town Concert - 2007
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island will sponsor a hot dog sale at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, in connection with the first of the season's free summer band concerts at the Town Common Gazebo. Tuesday's 7 p.m. concert is by Reflector, a classic rock band. The prices are: Hot dogs, $1; pop, $1; chips; $.50; and the combo of the three is $2. All proceeds go to the Zonta Scholarship Fund, which provides assistance to women attending college or receiving career training.




Zonta Club Presents 2007 Scholarships
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island presented Jessica Kuehne and Sydney Seese with the Veronica E. Connor Scholarship. Career advancement scholarships were presented to Jill Endres and Amy Stewart. The awards were given out following dinner at the Buffalo Launch Club on Tuesday June 26, 2007.




Scholarships Offered by Zonta Club of Grand Island
Deadline For Applications is May 21, 2007
   The Zonta Club of Grand Island announces that scholarship applications are available at the Grand Island Memorial Library and the Grand Island Town Hall. Four scholarships will be awarded to four deserving Grand Island women.
   Two Veronica E. Connor scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who have been accepted and plan to attend an accredited college. This year the members of the Zonta Club have doubled the amount of each scholarship in honor of the late Veronica Connor, a charter member of the Club.
   One Career/Professional Advancement scholarship will be given to a woman who is not a high school senior, is between the ages of 18 and 25 and who is in need of assistance to acquire, maintain or upgrade job skills to enter or reenter the job market, or to complete education for career advancement.
   One scholarship will be awarded to a woman over the age of 25 years or older. This Career Advancement scholarship is for someone enrolled in a degree or non-degree program to acquire or upgrade job skills.
   All completed applications are due by Friday, May 21, 2007.






Zonta Club To Host Spring District Workshop - 2007

   Members of the Zonta Club of Grand Island will host the Zonta annual Spring Workshop on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Buffalo Launch Club. This will be an all day affair with several speakers. The theme this year is Body, Mind and Zonta Spirit. . .Phenomenal Women. Clubs from District 4, Areas 3 and 4 and clubs from all over plan to attend this event. Grand Island Zonta members will hold a basket raffle with the proceeds going towards their Women's Scholarship Awards. Guests will include Zonta Governor Sandy Travers, Lt Governor Kathleen Douglass and Area Director Polly Redanz. Zonta member Lyn Laman designed the cover of the programs for the event. President Maria Burns thanks all of the members for their work in planning and making this a success.
