Anchor Marine Honored - Dec. 2009

   Anchor Marine, 1501 Ferry Road, Grand Island, was recently honored at the annual World Wide EZ-Dock Distributors meeting. President of the Company Christine Weaver, and General Manager John Howlett, were at the meeting in Charlotte, NC to receive the award for being “Top New Distributor” for EZ Dock floating docks systems WORLD WIDE. EZ Dock is the premier plastic floating dock on the market today and is sold in the United States and 28 countries around the world. The product has been on the market since 1989 and locally has been used in residential, commercial installations and most recently a number of local parks and marinas.
   Anchor Marine, under its subsidiary company “EZ-Dock of WNY,” took on a dealer franchise for the EZ Dock Company of Monett, Missouri in 2005. In 2008 they were awarded the distributorship for the twelve counties of WNY, and now have two dealers as part of their operation, one in Chautauqua County and another in Monroe County.
   The local staff of four full time technicians does all of the surveying, engineering, design and installation work. They have a 4,000 sq. ft. warehouse, and a fleet of work boats, trucks, trailers and motorized equipment for dock installation work. They led the industry with the first on-line shopping cart for EZ-Dock parts and accessories (www.EZDockofWNY.com) to simplify access for their customers.
   The company is looking forward to a bright 2010 with a number of large dock projects scheduled for several WNY cities, summer camps and a large installation for a private development in the southern tier. They also won three important NYS bids to build a large public Kayak Launch at Beaver Island State Park, provide the docks to rebuild the NYS DEC’s Sunset Bay Marina destroyed by flood last summer, and provide docks for a new boat launch at Cassadaga Lake.




Riverview Chiropractic Offices Move - 2009


   December 1, 2009 . . .Grand Island resident Dr. Alaina Rowswell-Kulikowski has announced that the offices of her chiropractic practices, Riverview Chiropractic - Just For Kids and Riverview Chiropractic Health have been moved from Buffalo to 1567 Military Road at the corner of Sheridan Drive.

Niagara’s Choice Federal Credit Union Celebrates New Sawyer Drive Branch by Sponsoring Blood Drive - Oct. 2009

    NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Niagara’s Choice Federal Credit Union, the second largest credit union in Niagara County, has opened a branch at 2131 Sawyer Drive in the Maria Allan Square across from Sears in the Town of Wheatfield. To celebrate the opening, the credit union will sponsor a blood drive with their new neighbors, The Red Cross, on October 24, 2009 at the Red Cross Building, 2079 Sawyer Drive, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

   The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and Town Board members welcomed Tim & Mickey Suphankomut of the Thai House restaurant with a ribbon cutting on Friday, September 11 at 5 p.m. Tim opened the restaurant just a month and a half ago at 2800 Grand Island Boulevard and specializes in authentic Thai cuisine. Hours of operation are Monday – Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and is closed on Sundays. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with plenty of parking, located just past Bedell Road on the left.




Anchor Marine - Youth Fishing Contest Results - 2009

   First place winner of the "Greater Niagara AYA Fishing Tournament," held Saturday, July 18th on the Niagara River and Lake Erie was Team 5: Chris Cinelli, Connor Cinelli and Parker Cinelli whose total catch weighed 17.93 pounds. The team also pulled in the big bass weighing 4.97 pounds for first place in that category.
   In second place was Team 3: Bruce Blakelock, Robert Blacklock and Thomas Blacklock whose total catch weighed 12:28 pounds.
   Placing third was Team 1: Frank Campbell, Marina Campbell and Marissa Campbell with total catch weighing 9.74 pounds.
   Team 9 (Robert Mussell, Hunter PEterson, Jesse Bortz) took second for big bass (3:19 pounds)
   Team 6 (Terry Jones, Kaylee Brant, Cody Brant) took third place for big bass (2:24 pounds)

38th Annual International Ford Retractable Club Convention At Holiday Inn - 2009

   The 38th annual International Ford Retractable Club Convention will be held at the
Holiday Inn Grand Island Resort and Conference Center on July 14-17, 2009. The Holiday Inn is located at 100 Whitehaven Road at East River Road. The Club is a non-profit organization with over 1100 members worldwide. Members of the New England and East Coast Chapters are helping to organize the event.
   A Car parts swap meet and the 1957, 1958 and 1959 Skyliners will be on display. The public is invited to view these unique vehicles free of charge. The main show days will be Wednesday and Thursday. Membership to the local chapter and the Club is open to anyone who owns or has an interest in the 1957, 1958 and 1959 Ford Retractable Hardtop.

   July 2, 2009 . . .Grand Island Dance Center students recently participated in the Summerdanse Dance Competition. Two groups were entered including tap duet, Danyelle Redmond and Jordan Davis. Among tough competitors they received 3rd place with High Silver Score. The other group to perform (pictured above from left: Grace Tompkins, Gianna Novelli, Theresa West, Grace Mankowski and Isabella Panepinto) was a ballet group. They were awarded the highest honor, Champions of their division.
   Grand Island Dance is very proud of all of their dancers who participated.
   The Studio is looking forward to taking part in the Grand Island 4th of July parade for the first time, also the upcoming Summer Dance Hip-Hop Classes they are offering.

   "Future cookie decorators," Angelina and Brianna Beyer, proudly show off their cookie creations they made to give their dad for Father's Day. Kids also had fun making a different version of "Mr Potato Head" using large mangos. There was a very good turnout at Tops Friendly Market on the Island for this special day and a lot of fun for those who came.




McCarthy School of Irish Dance Dancers Enroute to Nashville, Tennessee - June 2009


    The McCarthy School of Irish Dance, located on Baseline Road, Grand Island, is preparing to send a team of dancers, along with four soloists to Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the 2009 North American Championships over the Fourth of July weekend. This competition attracts dancers from not only North America, but Ireland, Scotland, England, and even Australia.
   The team of dancers, a mixed 8-hand, consists of eight dancers: Megan Bimont, John-Paul and Michael Bobak, Halle FitzGerald, Maggie and MaryElisabeth Rustowicz, Emma Smith, and Christina Sutton. There are also four soloists representing the McCarthy School – Halle FitzGerald, Shannon Graves, MaryElisabeth Rustowicz, and Meredith Stone. These dancers have been preparing for several months and are looking forward to the competition. The dancers are taught by Beth McCarthy, TCRG.
   The dancers are holding a car wash on June 13 at the Island Prescription Center (1728 Grand Island Blvd) to help raise funds for the trip. The car wash will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they are asking for a suggested $5 donation for each car washed. In addition, the dancers are also selling Anderson coupon books for $4.

Miss Cathy's Dance Academy To Hold Recital - June 2009


   Miss Cathy's Dance Academy will hold their 39th annual dance recital "FAME", on Friday and Saturday, June 12-13, at the Grand Island High School auditorium at 7 p.m. A basket raffle to benefit Amy Stewart will also be held during the recital. McMahon's Opens Hot Dog Stand - June 2009


   McMahon's Family Restaurant, 1849 Grand Island Blvd., has opened a hot dog stand that features hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, sweet potato fries and sandwiches. Fran and Joe McMahon and family, owners of the restaurant, will open the hot dog stand from 11 a.m. to dusk. It will be open everyday except for Mondays.

Summit Mall Closing To Affect Niagara's Choice Federal Credit Union - 2009

    Niagara's Choice Federal Credit Union's Summit Mall branch has been informed of the Mall's bankruptcy. Based upon information from mall owners at this time, the Summit Branch office will close on June 6th. Credit Union officials stated they are actively looking for another nearby location for the branch that will continue to "serve our local members." Members are reminded that they may use either of the other two locations, Main office at 3619 Packard Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14303 or North Tonawanda Branch, 3571 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120 until a new location is open. Easter Break Baseball Camp - 2009

Island Dug Out & Training Center, will host a Easter Break Baseball Camp at $10/day. The camp is open to all ages. The five days of training and conditioning will include batting, fielding, pitching, base running and catching. The Camp begins on Monday, April 13.    Niagara’s Choice Federal Credit Union, the second largest credit union in Niagara County, officially opened their third branch at The Summit Mall this week. The office is located at the entrance between Sears and Save-a-Lot on Williams Road. A grand opening will be held on Saturday, April 18th from 10 until 2. The credit union is also building a 3,200 square foot branch at 3577 Niagara Falls Blvd in N. Tonawanda. This branch will take the place of a smaller office currently located next door in the Meadowbrook Plaza. Construction of the new building should be completed in May.

Anchor Marine Sponsors Youth Fishing Contest - July 18th - 2009

   A "Greater Niagara AYA Fishing Tournament" will be held Saturday, July 18th on the Niagara River and Lake Erie. Deadline to enter is June 12, 2009 and fee is $150 per team. Tournament hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A cookout will be available for participants and volunteers after the weigh in at Anchor Marine, 1501 Ferry Road. Prizes and awards presentation will immediately following the cookout.

   Members of Grand Island Dance Center, 3452 Wallace Drive, just wrapped up their annual holidays food drive. The Dance Center collected two big boxes this year! "We are very fortunate to have conscientious students with such generous families. We are very proud of all of our students," dance instructor Rachel L. Novelli said this week.
   The studio is starting to prepare for its yearly recital, which will be held on Friday, May 29th at the fine arts auditorium at Niagara Falls High School. The students will also be performing on Saturday, May 23rd at Martin's Fantasy Island as part of the Memorial Dance Showcase Weekend. Another upcoming event is Grand Island Dances’ Early Registration Special. If you register your child for the 2009-2010 Dance Season you receive $5.00 off the Registration fee.
