   This picture (left) was taken during the surprise October 12th snowstorm on Thursday afternoon, October 12, 2006. Barbara McMichael took the photo from her front porch. "At that time I was admiring the sight of pancake-sized snowflakes falling against the backdrop of the colorful fall foliage. The scene resembled an impressionist painting," Barbara said. The photo on the right was taken later in the afternoon of October 12th, as the snow began to accumulate and stick to the trees. "By 6:30 p.m. on October 12th, the snow was really piling up on the patio furniture. At about this time, we started hearing what sounded like rifleshots and realized that tree limbs were breaking," Barbara said.

   "It's true! Cyclamens can live outside! Adria was very excited to discover under leafy canopy that her hardy cyclamen (zone 4-8) had indeed survived the winter and was in full bloom. Adria is also always gladdened when her toad lily, her orchid of the autumn shade, starts to bloom - a little later than last year, but thriving nonetheless."

The "Sneaky Snake" photo was also taken in Kim's back yard. "I took this in my backyard last week, after freaking about the snake poking his head up through the blades of grass next to my barefeet! But as you can see, I composed myself, got a shot, and then ran!"

   "The Frog And The Tadpole" - This frog was sun bathing in the pond. I didn't
even know there was a tadpole next to him in the picture until I viewed the photo on the computer!"

in the woods with beautiful pink buds "exploding" into beautiful flowers!
"BEEEE Happy!!" This was "daring" for me to get this close to bees because I'm petrified

Nathan Cook relates: "The rabid raccoon was found in the woods in Buckhorn. I first caught a glimpse of it walking on the broken limb of a willow. With the aid of a telephoto lens, it was instantly apparent that it was very ill - even though its coat was very clean and well cared for. It was staggering, snorting, drooling masses of white foam and would fall to its side and go into convulsions every couple of minutes. There is no doubt in my mind that it was in the death throws of rabies."

   Duck hunters shown pulling in the duck boat to the blind at Beaver Island on a cold Saturday, January 7, 2006 were photographed by Kim Ludwig at the Duck Blind #30. The friendly Lab, all decked out in her camo vest, was anxiously waiting to retrieve ducks for this threesome (Mike Ludwig, Frank Nalbach and his son, Ethan) during this last weekend of duck hunting on the Island.
