    The 10th Annual Grand Island Alumni Association Comedy Night was held on Friday, January 27th at Ellden's Grill at River Oaks. A sold out crowd enjoyed the three hysterical comedians and the raffle. All proceeds from the event go to scholarships for high school seniors. Over $13,000 has been awarded over the past 10 years.




10th Annual Comedy Night - January 2017


    The Grand Island Alumni Association and Aceti's Wine & Spirits are hosting their 10th Annual Comedy Night at Ellden's Grill at River Oaks on Friday, January 27th at 8:00 p.m. This year's show features two headliners, Uncle Trent & Marc Sinodinos and emcee Ralph Tetta. Tickets are $20 presale at Aceti's (Tops Plaza)) and deSignet Jewelry (1868 Whitehaven), or $25 at the door. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Dinner reservations are required, call 775-5190.    The Grand Island Alumni Association is pleased to announce this year's scholarship winners. They are Claire Ahne attending D'Youville, Adam Dryfout attending Canisius College and Amber Schwinn attending St. John Fisher. Each senior received a $500 check to help with expenses.

    The Grand Island Alumni Assoc. and Aceti's Wine & Spirits had a very successful 9th Annual Comedy Night on Friday, January 29th at Ellden's at River Oaks. The sold out crowd enjoyed the comedy of local comedians Rick Matthews and Toni Pusateri. The headliner, Jeff Pirrami, came all the way from Philadelphia and was hysterical. The ever popular wine raffle was a sell out and over 40 gifts were given away with the wine chances. Thanks to Sam and Kim Aceti of Aceti's Wine & Spirits for being the platinum sponsor for this event for the past six years. Their generosity to the GIAA and in the community is very much appreciated. GI Alumni Association 9th Annual Comedy Night

   The Grand Island Alumni Assoc. and Aceti's Wine & Spirits present the 9th Annual Comedy Night on Friday, January 29th at 8:00 p.m. at Ellden's Restaurant at River Oaks. The headliner is Jeff Pirrami, featured in TV, film and commercials. Jeff has performed in numerous comedy clubs in New York City, LA and Atlantic City and Las Vegas Casinos. Buffalo's own Tony Pusateri has performed all over the country and will be part of the night's entertainment and the third comedian is Rick Mathews. The ever popular wine raffle and 50/50 drawings will be available. Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased at Aceti's-Top's Plaza and DeSignet Jewelry-1869 Whitehaven. GIAA Check Presentation


   
Presenting a check to GIHS Athletic Director Jon Roth are Grand Island Alumni Association members Kimberly A. Schopp Kalman and Richard Crawford. The check was presented at the Varsity Soccer teams semi-final game on Wednesday, October 21st. Money was raised at last fall's opening of the football field, "Friday Night Under the Lights." $1800 of the money raised was spent on cushion wrapping 50 more yards of fencing on the home side of the field. $4800 is going towards scholarships for the Gene Masters Scholarship fund. Thanks to all the fundraisers and donations, the Grand Island Alumni Association has raised over the last 11 years, we have awarded over $11,000 in scholarships to Grand Island Seniors.

    The Grand Island Alumni Assoc. and Aceti's Wine & Spirits had a very successful 8th Annual Comedy Night on Saturday, January 24th at Ellden's at River Oaks. The sold out crowd enjoyed the comedy of local comediens Greg Bauch and Linda O., back for their second appearance, the first in 2009. They were a great warm up for the headliner, Tyrone Davis from Michigan. Davis had the crowd in stitches for over an hour. The ever popular wine raffle was also a sell out and three happy attendees went home with two 32 inch tv's and a diamond necklace.

About the Headliner: Comedian Tyrone Davis has entertained audiences all over the country. His high energy and "take no prisoners" attitude has made him a standout among stand-ups. Whether he's talking about his family, or politics, you never know where he's going until he gets there. But, you will enjoy the ride! Some of his credits include TV and Radio; and shared performances with the likes of Todd Yohn, Spanky Brown, Killer Beaz, Bruce Bruce and many more. He has also traveled to entertain our troops in Kuwait and Iraq. A "must see".




Dan Buenafe - 1965 All Star - October 2014

   Dan Buenafe played for the Grand Island Vikings in 1964-1965 and as a senior made first team as an end on the Division III All Stars. The Vikings had a 7-1 record that first Varsity season and ended up in a three-way tie with Depew and Iroquois for the Championship. Dan not only came back from California for the Gene Masters Field re-dedication on September 19th, but he donated a platinum sponsorship in memory of Coach Masters and players Bobby Luther, Rich Trotter, Paul Kaegebein, Danny Carroll and Art Bascomb. He happened to have some memorabilia with him while visiting. It was a pleasure reminiscing with him and we hope he will be back next year when the sports teams from the 1960's will be honored by the Grand Island Alumni Association.

Successful 7th Annual GIHS Alumni Comedy Show - January 2014

   GI Alumni 7th Annual Comedy show was a hilarious success. For the first time, the show was held at Ellden's at River Oaks Golf Course and everyone loved the food and atmosphere. Comediens Dan Pordum, Blane Kelly and Wes Zaharek kept everyone laughing and entertained. Thanks to our main sponsor Sam and Kim Aceti of Aceti Wine & Spirits. Comedians Dann Pordum, Wes Zaharek and Blane Kelly are scheduled to entertain. This will be the 7th year for funny man MC Dann Pordum. Canadian comedian Wes Zaharek's form of comedy is described as "one of the zaniest shows on the market. If you like to laugh you won't want to miss this comic in action", by a UK comedy website - Comedy CV. Blane Kelly was previous winner of the Buffalo Last Comic Standing competition.    The GIHS Alumni Association 6th Annual Comedy Show was a big success on Saturday, January 26th at the Grand Island Holiday Inn. Over $2500 was raised through ticket sales and raffles and will go towards scholarships for GIHS seniors. Comedian Dan Mahoney, comic/magician Matt Disero and MC Dan Pordum had everyone entertained for the evening.    The Grand Island Alumni Association is pleased to announce this year's scholarship winners. They are Jessica Bamberg, Phyllup Stallard and Emily Sommer. Jessica Bamberg is attending Roberts Wesleyan College where she will major in Special Education. Phyllup Stallard is attending N.C.C.C. for general education and Emily Sommer is attending Paul Smith's College for Culinary Arts and Hospitality. They each received a check for $500 to help with their college expenses. The GIAA awards scholarships to GIHS seniors who demonstrate school spirit, involvement in school and community activities and need. All Grand Island High School seniors are invited each spring to apply.

   The Grand Island Alumni Association is pleased to announce this year's scholarship winners. They are Liam Dodd, Justine Call and Alex Prine. Liam will be attending SUNY College at Brockport, majoring in Sports Management. Justine is attending Ithaca College majoring in Music Performance/Education and Alex is attending Houghton College majoring in Music Education/Vocal Performance. Each senior received a $500 scholarship to help towards their college expenses. The GIAA awards scholarships to GIHS seniors who demonstrate school spirit, involvement in school and community activities and need. All Grand Island High School seniors are invited each spring to apply.

   The GIAA 4th Annual Comedy show was big on laughs with comedian Dan Pordum back behind the mike. Dan, along with Tim Joyce had everyone in fine spirits. The show's great turn-out will enable 2-3 seniors a scholarship from the GIAA to help with their expenses.
