Jack & Jill Community Preschool Visits Botanical Gardens - Spring 2011

Jack and Jill Community Preschool visited the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. The children got some exercise as they ran on the lawn outside the gardens. Then they took a tour and made a terrarium. The preschoolers carefully layered rocks, sand, charcoal, and soil to get their containers ready for the plants. At the end of the field trip, everyone had fun visiting Farmer Brown’s animals.
Wee Winter Olympics at Jack and Jill Community Preschool
Jack and Jill Community Preschool held its first Wee Winter Olympics on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8. The young athletes did warm up exercises with “Coach” Judy before “Coach” Jane led them in the parade of nations. The children took the Wee Winter Olympic Oath to participate in all the games, do their best, and remember that winning and losing is not important. They learned it’s most important to have fun.The athletes were divided into teams and rotated through four events. They wore tissue boxes for speed skating, tried to score goals in hockey, and used a styrofoam ball for the snowball roll. For the giant slalom, they climbed the playground “mountain” and went down the slide. They quickly settled into a sled and Coach Judy pulled them through the course..
After each event, the children got a medal for participating. The games ended with a closing ceremony. Each athlete was invited to stand on the podium to receive a certificate. The games were a success and introduced exercise and teamwork in a fun, positive way.
Jack & Jill Community Preschool Open House and 2011-2012 Registration
Jack and Jill Community Preschool invites you to stop in the see how fun school can be! Parents and children are welcome to visit and participate in the 3 year old class on Thursday, January 27 or the 4 year old class on Friday, January 28. The classroom is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on both days. The school is located at 2587 Baseline Road.Jack and Jill Community Preschool introduces children to school in a gently structured environment. This cooperative preschool gives parents the opportunity to be directly involved in the classroom. An experienced teacher and a teacher’s aide help students become comfortable participating in a group, while nurturing the unique abilities of each child. The curriculum is designed to provide children with academic and social skills in preparation for kindergarten. A typical day includes table top activities, welcome circle, small group activities, a craft, story time, centers, and goodbye circle. A daily snack is provided.
Throughout the year, the children celebrate holidays as well as special days like Grandparents Day, International Preschool of Pancakes (IPOP), and Dad’s Day. Students and their families can participate in field trips to Kelkenberg Farm, the Aquarium of Niagara, Shea’s Performing Arts Center, Botanical Gardens, and the Buffalo Museum of Science. The classes also enjoy visits from the Grand Island Fire Company and the Grand Island Memorial Library.
Join us for lots of fun in 2011-2012! Registration for current students and alumni runs from January 1 to January 31. Open registration begins on February 1. Children must turn 3 or 4 years old by December 1, 2011 to register for the 2011-2012 school year. Grand Island Fire Company Visits Jack and Jill Community Preschool - Oct. 2010

October 14, 2010 . . Students at Jack and Jill Community Preschool enjoyed a visit from the Grand Island Fire Company on Monday, October 4. Firefighter Tommy told the children that firefighters are their friends. He talked about calling 911 in an emergency and crawling on the floor to get out of a smoky room. Some of the students helped him demonstrate stop, drop, and roll. Children watched firefighter Keith put on his gear and got to touch his equipment so they wouldn’t be afraid of him. Firefighter Tommy reminded the children not to hide during a fire and told them to call out so the firefighters can find them quickly. Then the classes got to check out the fire truck and and have a picture taken with their new friends. These important lessons are being continued in the classroom with fire prevention themed crafts, games, and songs.Jack & Jill Community Preschool Registration - 2010

This cooperative preschool currently has openings in both the 3 year old and 4 year old classes. The 3 year old class meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, while the 4 year old class is held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Children must turn 3 or 4 years old by December 1, 2010 to register for the 2010-2011 school year. Jack and Jill Community Preschool Pancake Breakfast - April 2010

April 15-16, 2010 . . Jack and Jill Community Preschool, located at 2587 Baseline Road, looked and smelled like a pancake house as it hosted International Preschool of Pancakes (IPOP) day. Students came to school in their pajamas with a favorite stuffed animal. For a true restaurant experience, they called IPOP to make a reservation, drove their school bus to the restaurant, and chose food from a buffet line. After breakfast, the IPOP theme continued with a pancake craft, song, and story. Later, the three-year-old class gathered around their yellow school bus for a picture. The theme day fun continues in May with Dad’s Day and Bears and Birthdays. For Dad’s Day, the children come to school with their fathers to make a special Mother’s Day present. Finally, the students will celebrate summer birthdays with a teddy bear themed party.
Jack and Jill Community Preschool Museum Trip - March 2010

Jack and Jill Community Preschool, located at 2587 Baseline Road, went on a field trip to The Buffalo Museum of Science on Friday, March 5 to see “Sesame Street Presents: The Body.” The children shopped for healthy foods in Hooper’s Store, practiced the correct way to wash their hands, and learned about their digestive systems with Oscar the Grouch. When they pressed keys on the Count’s pipe organ, they heard songs about their body’s organs. They even got some exercise on a special dance floor. After they enjoyed the exhibit, the students posed for a picture at 123 Sesame Street. The children will learn more about healthy habits later this month when the UB Dental School visits Jack and Jill.

Students at Jack and Jill Community Preschool welcomed their grandparents to school on October 22 and October 23 for Grandparents Day. This special day included grandparent themed songs and stories. The children made a craft with their grandparents and shared a snack with them. Everyone had fun celebrating together.

Students at Jack and Jill Community Preschool enjoyed a visit from the Grand Island Fire Company on Monday, October 5. They learned about fire prevention and talked about what to do if there was a fire at home. The children watched a firefighter put on her gear and saw that her equipment doesn’t make her scary. At the end of the visit, the classes got to climb aboard a fire truck and a rescue truck.

The 3-year-old class at Jack and Jill Community Preschool enjoyed a Teddy Bear Picnic on Thursday, April 23. The children brought their teddy bears to school for lots of bear themed fun. In this picture, the whole class gathered around the campfire to roast marshmallows with their furry friends.

Students in the four-year-old class at Jack and Jill Community Preschool had International Preschool of Pancakes (IPOP) Day on Friday, March 13. Children came to school in their pajamas and enjoyed a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit, and juice. For a true restaurant experience, the children called IPOP to make a reservation, drove to the restaurant, chose food from a buffet line, and paid the bill. The IPOP theme continued throughout the day. The children had fun making a pancake craft, flipping pancakes on paper plate skillets, and listening to songs and stories about pancakes.

Parents and children are invited to visit the 3-year-old class on Tuesday, March 3 or the 4-year-old class on Wednesday, March 4 to participate in a day at Jack and Jill. The classroom is open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on both days.

Jack and Jill students had a very busy October 2008 starting off with a visit from the Grand Island Fire Company during Fire Prevention Week. The children were also treated to a field trip to Kelkenberg Farm. The students at Jack and Jill Community Preschool invited their grandparents to class for Grandparents Day. They enjoyed singing for their grandparents during circle time. Everyone had fun celebrating this special day together. At the end of the month, everyone celebrated Halloween.
Jack & Jill Community Preschool To Host Island's Largest Home Party - 2007
The Island's Largest Home Party, sponsored by the Jack and Jill Community Preschool, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Buffalo Launch Club. Advanced sale ticket price is $10, or $12 at the door. The event will include a gourmet dessert table, chocolate fountain, specialty coffees & teas, (cash bar available). Santa dropped by to speak with each student and read to them from his ‘special book,’ letting each child know how proud he was of them all. The students thanked Santa with rousing renditions of some of his more favorite carols!

Jack and Jill Community Preschool held its annual "Dad's Day" on Saturday, November 2, 2002. The children, accompanied to school by their dads, made a Christmas craft for their moms, gift bags to wrap it in and a card to add the final touch. The Dads and their children also worked together to frost and decorate their own sugar cookies to top off the day!"
