Wee Winter Olympics at Jack and Jill Community Preschool

Jack and Jill Community Preschool held its first Wee Winter Olympics on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8. The young athletes did warm up exercises with “Coach” Judy before “Coach” Jane led them in the parade of nations. The children took the Wee Winter Olympic Oath to participate in all the games, do their best, and remember that winning and losing is not important. They learned it’s most important to have fun.
The athletes were divided into teams and rotated through four events. They wore tissue boxes for speed skating, tried to score goals in hockey, and used a styrofoam ball for the snowball roll. For the giant slalom, they climbed the playground “mountain” and went down the slide. They quickly settled into a sled and Coach Judy pulled them through the course..
After each event, the children got a medal for participating. The games ended with a closing ceremony. Each athlete was invited to stand on the podium to receive a certificate. The games were a success and introduced exercise and teamwork in a fun, positive way.
