Hydroplane Racing League News - January 2020The HRL (Hydroplane Racing League) recently held its 2020 Convention in Valleyfield, Quebec. The Grand Island connection is Steeler GP-777, a Grand Prix boat crewed by many Grand Island residents, including Mike Endres, Gary Roesch & Mike Geblein. The Steeler was champion for the 2019 season with Jimmy King as driver.
Some changes decided at the convention for the racing league: If one or more teams cannot participate in the final, the vacant place (s) may be filled by stand-by boats. The goal is to present breathtaking finals with the best boats. Over the next three years strengthening the cockpit and adding a safety cage inside the boats will be the priority of the league. For the 2020 season, a neck restraint system will be mandatory of all drivers.
