Recreation Department Youth Kayak Class - August 2021Grand Island Recreation Department is having an introduction to kayak class for ages 13-17. Kayaks, lifejackets and paddles will be provided. The class will take place Monday & Tuesday, August 30-31 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Registration is necessary and class size is limited. See FLYER.
Recreation Department Summer Social - July 2021Grand Island Recreation Department is hosting a Summer social on Friday, August 20th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Nike Base. Space is limited and registration is required. See FLYER.

Adaptive Program for Special Needs Youth - July 2021The Town of Grand Island Recreation Department is introducing an Adaptive Program for ages 4 to 18 years old who identify as individuals with special needs. A fit and fun creative movement programs will consist of musically inspired activities at the Nike Base Community Center. See Details.

The Town of Grand Island Independence Day Parade and Dick Bessel Run will take place on Saturday, July 3rd.
New Recreation Programs - June 2021New Programs: Registration for Hockey, Swim and Golf opens Monday, 6/14 at 8:00 a.m.
Hockey - lessons and league. We will offer hockey lessons for boys and girls 6-8 years old and a hockey league for boys and girls 9-13 years old. No need to have a team. Sign up and Rec. Staff will make teams the first week.
Swim Lessons - swim lessons are back! They are open for all ages from parent / child classes up to adult lessons. Please note, swim lessons are in the High School Pool and any NYS mandates specific to schools must be followed, including wearing face coverings when moving through the building. Face coverings will not have to be worn during lessons. Locker rooms will be available.
Golf - we have added an introduction to golf program for participants ages 5-6. This will be run at the Nike Base and a putting class at local Putt Putt.
Adaptive Program - we are starting a new program for participants with special needs. The program will be run by Daniella Salvatore. Daniella is a social worker with 15 years of experience and has extensive experience working with participants with special needs. We have an open house on Wednesday, June 23rd from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Community Center located in Nike Base Park. Come meet the staff and see the facility.

Easter Egg Hunt - April 2021Trail Map
The Town of Grand Island Recreation Department is hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 2nd from 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.; it will take approximately 30 minutes to walk the entire trail. Children ages 3-10 are invited to attend. See flyer for complete details.
