Virtual Summer Reading Kickoff with the Science Tellers! - June 2020

    We're having a Zoom Party with the Science Tellers to kickoff summer reading this year! Join us virtually for an exciting show, "Dragons: Return of the Ice Sorceress!"
    A long time ago, in a faraway land, two brave villagers go on a daring journey to release the dragons and save the kingdom from an evil Ice Sorceress. When things don't go as planned, however, the kids might need to look to themselves - and to science! - for the answer. Don't miss this fun fantasy adventure featuring awesome dry ice experiments as special effects! Registration is required. Limited to 100 devices. Library Opening for Limited Service - June 2020

    The Grand Island Memorial Library will be open to the public for limited service beginning Monday, June 15th. Open hours will be as follows: Monday 10-4; Tuesday 1-7; Wednesday 10-4; Thursday 10-4; Friday 10-4.
   Please note the following: Per the Governor’s Executive Order, masks are to be worn when in the library. All returns must go into the book drop. We will not be accepting material donations (books, DVDs, etc.) until further notice.
   Services will include: Over the desk transactions including check out, reference, and monetary transactions to pay for fines/fees. Computer use and printing: limited to 15 minute sessions. As always, Wi-Fi is available 24/7 for everyone. The network is BECPL2 and the password is librarywifi.
    Curbside service will still be offered in addition during open hours: To place orders, call the library at 773-7124 or visit the library’s website at https://www.buffalolib.org/locations-hours/grand-island-memorial-library for an online order form. At this time, pick up orders are restricted to items that are currently in the Grand Island Memorial Library. Library News - April 2020

    The Grand Island Memorial Library will be closed to the public for the duration until further directives are received from the Governor of NY.
    We will not be accepting material donations (books, DVDs, etc.) for the duration.
    The book drop will be closed for the duration. Due dates have been extended to May 18, 2020 for materials borrowed on or after February 11, 2020.
    We apologize for the inconvenience. These decisions were made in support of the current initiatives suggested by the Erie County Health Department Commissioner and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in an effort to reduce public exposure to the COVID-19 virus. www.buffalolib.org for continued updates.

Getting Your Garden Ready for Spring - April 2020

    Wednesday, April 22nd @7:00 pm
    Join the library virtually via Zoom for a presentation and Q&A with local gardener Peggy Koppmann. She will cover best practices for preparing your garden for the spring and summer months. The Zoom meeting invite with room ID and password will be emailed to you an hour before the event.




GI Memorial Library Closed - March 2020

    The Grand Island Memorial Library will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday, March 17th thru Monday, March 31st at 8pm as per recommendation from the County Executive. All programs and meeting room use at the library are suspended through March 28th. We will not be accepting material donations (books, DVDs, etc.) for the duration. In an effort to help contain the spread of the virus, the book drop will be closed thru March 30th. All currently checked out library items will be due on April 30th. Census Day Open House - March 2020

   Wednesday, April 1st 4:00-6:00 pm
   Census Day: Get Counted @ Your Library Open House Event. Stop by the library on Census Day to take the Census and enjoy the following events: Limited Discard Book Sale (children’s/young adult items) sponsored by the Friends of the Grand Island Memorial Library; Juggling, magic, and balloon animals with Gravitational Bull from 4:30-5:30 pm; Free refreshments and candy bars (while supplies last)! **Please bring the letter you received from the Census Bureau that contains your Census ID.** No registration necessary.

Local Author Event - March 2020

    Presented by local author John Boutet. John will present a talk and book signing for his book, Buffalo's Got the Spirit: Growing Up a Crazy Buffalo Sports Collector. Come learn about this amazing and in depth history of all our Buffalo sports. John is a native Western New Yorker, a physical education teacher in the Niagara Wheatfield CSD and is also the Site and Exhibit Chairman for the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame and the archivist and curator for the AAA Buffalo Bisons. Niagara University accounting students, the Accounting Society, and Beta Alpha Psi students, partnered with VITA (the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program through the IRS), will electronically file your Federal and State tax returns. Short form only. No stock sales, itemized deductions or business expenses. Just bring your tax documents and we will do the rest. NOTE: Bring Social Security Cards for all individuals who will be on the return and photo ID for all adults on the return.

   Ticks are a widespread problem in NYS and Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases are on the rise. Learn more about where ticks live, how to identify them. and how to reduce their population in your yard. This program will also address how to avoid tick bites, how to remove them safely from your body and how to protect yourself against Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. Circus Toy Crafting Workshop - February 2020

   In this 90-minute program, participants will craft and take home their own set of juggling balls and a pair of poi (a dance prop that consists of a weight on a tether, originating from New Zealand). All supplies provided. Participants will learn a few fundamental techniques with their new props to spark a new healthy hobby!
